Catholic Life
"In the Beginning Was the Word..."
St. John's Gospel expresses concisely where ultimate truth
is to be found: in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word. "If you
continue in my word, you are truly my disciples and you will
know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
By this exquisite economy of expression, Our Divine Lord
shows us the necessary counterpart to true learning: true
discipleship to Himself. The intellectual life and the moral
life are inseparable. Thus the efforts of students in the
academic program of Thomas Aquinas College are supported through
norms of behavior and time-honored religious practices by
which social order is safeguarded and the well-being of each
member of the community best achieved.

Students have many opportunities to grow in their faith.
The daily examination and discussion of the works of the greatest
minds in our tradition, both ancient and modern, and a focused
reading of Sacred Scripture and the greatest theologians of
the Church will, of course, awaken and deepen an understanding
of and love for the central mysteries of the Christian faith.
Moreover, a rich sacramental life
is central to the daily life of Thomas Aquinas College. There
are three full-time chaplains
on campus. Mass is offered three times daily in the College
chapel and there are no classes at those times so all who
wish to attend may do so. Confessions are heard after every
Mass and at other times throughout the week. Eucharistic adoration
is scheduled for several hours each day. The Rosary, Compline,
and other liturgies and private devotions are well attended.
Religious vocations are fostered and spiritual direction is
offered. Though all such activity is voluntary, a large majority
of students regularly take part in them. Students are enthused
and serious about their faith, although non-Catholic students
are also truly welcomed. Truth is, after all, universal.
Student prefects safeguard the harmony and tranquility of
the community by enforcing the rules of the campus: no possession
of alcohol or illegal drugs; no visitation in dormitories
of the opposite sex. Though infractions of these rules are
rare, they normally entail dismissal from the College.
