Text & Photos from Two Recent
Talks
At the College’s annual
Thanksgiving Dinner, President Michael F. McLean spoke
about Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Thanksgiving Proclamation
and its evocation of the “Our Father,” drawing upon St.
Thomas’ sermons about the Lord’s Prayer.
Also in
November, as part of the St. Vincent de Paul Concert and
Lecture Series, Dr. Peter Kalkavage of St. John’s
College delivered a talk entitled “Passion and
Perception in Mozart’s Magic Flute.” It was a spirited
presentation, complete with musical accompaniment and a
vigorous question-and-answer session. Both talks are
available on the College’s
website.

Star
Praising
the College for its devotion to classical liberal
education, the Heritage Foundation’s Ryan Messmore
recently praised Thomas Aquinas College as “A Different
Kind of ‘Liberal’” in a post on the think tank’s
official blog.
Echoing these themes, in November
the Ventura County Star ran a front-page
story about the College’s 40th anniversary. The article
noted the College’s reputation for academic excellence
and the strong moral and spiritual life of its
students.
