A
STUDENT
SAYS
THANK
YOU Mirjana
Coccia (’14)
At one point this summer,
Mirjana Coccia (’14) of Randolph, N.J., feared that she
would not be able to return to Thomas Aquinas College
for her junior year. Having hit upon hard times, her
family could not pay for the upcoming semester’s
tuition. Fortunately she was able to qualify for a new
financial aid package and, thanks to the generosity of
the College’s benefactors, she is now back on campus,
delighting in the blessings of a Catholic liberal
education. On behalf of the nearly 80 percent of Thomas
Aquinas College students who receive financial aid,
Mirjana expresses her gratitude.

THE
COLLEGE PRAYER
BOOK Pray
for the College, and pray with the College, in word and
in spirit!
The College has released a new,
elegant book of prayers that have long been part of the
College’s spiritual life. Among the devotions are the
Prayer to the Holy Spirit said at the beginning of each
class, a Prayer for Vocations that has helped draw so
many alumni to the priesthood and religious life, and
the prayers offered in the Chapel each day for
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Alongside these
and other devotions are beautiful photographs from the
College — Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel,
campus statuary, and scenes from the Mass and
Adoration.
To read this small book is to glean an
insight into the spiritual life of the College; to pray
these prayers is to partake in it — a precious gift for
alumni, parents, benefactors, and all friends of Thomas
Aquinas College.

GOOD
NEWS
FROM DR.
McARTHUR College’s
Founding President Recovering
The family
of Thomas Aquinas College’s founding president, Dr.
Ronald P. McArthur, report that he “has made astounding
progress,” and that his prospects for a recovery are
quite good. Taking full advantage of his improved
condition, Dr. McArthur has written two letters — one to
the College’s faculty and staff, and one to the alumni —
expressing his deep gratitude for all the prayers they
have offered in his behalf. He continues to offer up his
suffering in return, and asks that all continue to keep
him in prayer.

IN THE NEWS
A
Round-Up of Recent Stories
In a recent column, James Tonkowich of
ReligionToday.com writes about how liberal
education cultivates the “wisdom and virtue without
which freedom, democracy, and prosperity are
impossible.” Moreover, he adds, “graduates of
philosophy-heavy Great Books schools such as Thomas
Aquinas College … have been pleased to discover that
they possess extremely marketable
skills.”
Meanwhile, the Ventura County
Star has interviewed tutor Dr. Carol Day about her
passion for the Faith, science, and the outdoors — and
her explanation that three are interrelated. “There’s
more than one approach to the beauty and complexity of
nature,” says Dr. Day, “more than one approach to the
wisdom of the Creator.”
Finally, in his blog, the
College’s newest chaplain, Rev. Joseph Illo, has posted
his homily from the Feast of Christ the King, in which
he discusses how the College's work-study program is in
keeping with the Church’s teaching on
subsidiarity.
