For the tutors at Thomas Aquinas College, summer learning begins shortly after graduation, with thrice-weekly, 90-minute morning seminars that continue through the end of June. “It is important that our tutors never cease to be students,” remarks Dean Brian T. Kelly. “For our own benefit and for that of our students, we must grow in the understanding of the truth that underlies our course of studies.”

Twice yearly during the freshman, sophomore, and junior years, each student sits with his tutors and hears their observations on his work. The primary aim of the Don Rag is not, like a report card, to state the degree of a student’s mastery of the material. It is, rather, an occasion for offering him specific advice on how to improve his class preparation and participation and to help him advance in the intellectual life. Tutors thus work with the student to enable him to pursue more successfully the wisdom offered by great books.

According to the Catholic Church’s General Norms for the Liturgical Year and Calendar, the anniversary of the dedication of a church is to be celebrated as a solemnity within that community. As such, March 7 is doubly significant at Thomas Aquinas College, for it marks the date of the death of the College’s patron, St. Thomas Aquinas, in 1274, as well as the Dedication of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel in 2009.
