I want to give the toast to Thomas Aquinas College and the people that have made it great. This society we live in is a spiritual desert, and in that society, Thomas Aquinas College is an oasis and has been an oasis for 35 years. People make history, history doesnt make people. And the people of Thomas Aquinas College are changing history for the better and our culture for the better. On this occasion, I think a toast is proper. A toast by definition is that which gives thanks and praise to someone or to a group of people. I think our first praise and thanks has to be to the Almighty God who put the idea in the minds of a small group of people to form a Catholic college that was faithful to the Magisterium and the pope, and carried on the Catholic tradition as it should be. Our first praise and thanks, therefore, has to go to the Almighty God who started it and is watching over it. The second praise and thanks has to go to those who took that idea and ran with it and caused it to happen. It has been tremendous activity that has taken it from a little seedling, to a sapling, and now a full-grown tree. It is enormousthe thousands of people that the College is helping. I think that this, our college, is an oasis in a desert of spirituality that it is changing it for the better. It is an oasis of truth, beauty, and goodness, and for all of us pilgrims who have been associated with it, Thomas Aquinas College has changed and enhanced our lives and made us better people. It will keep doing this, and get better and better and better. So heres to all the people who have made Thomas Aquinas College what it is today. Its going to get even better. Thank you. -- 35th Anniversary 2007 |
