U.S. News Commends College in Latest "Best
Colleges" Guide
Only Catholic
College Among "Best Values"
(September 7, 2001)
Thomas Aquinas College is the only Catholic
college in the nation to be commended by U.S. News &
World Report as one of the magazine's "Best
Values" in its annual ranking of American liberal
arts colleges. Describing what makes a school a "Best
Value," U.S. News says, "Great schools at
great prices: Where can you expect to get the most for your
money? To determine which colleges and universities offer
the best value, we use a formula that relates a school's academic
quality, as indicated by its U.S. News ranking, with
the net cost of attendance for a student who receives the
average level of financial aid. The higher the quality of
the school's academic program and the lower the cost to the
student, the better the deal. We considered only the universities
and colleges that finished in the top half of their categories
in the U.S. News rankings. We believe that families
will find the most significant values among colleges that
are above average academically."
U.S. News & World Report placed Thomas
Aquinas College in the second of four tiers among the nation's
liberal arts colleges in its "America's
Best Colleges" issue published September 7th, 2001.
Only three other Catholic institutions were among the 114
ranked in the first two tiers: College of the Holy Cross,
College of St. Benedict, and St. John's University (Minnesota).
In a separate
ranking, Thomas Aquinas College is number one - and the
only Catholic college - among all liberal arts colleges for
the highest proportion - 100% - of classes under 20 students.
