Local Artist Unveils Statue at Thomas Aquinas College
(April 24, 2008)
SANTA PAULA, Calif.-On Thursday, April 24, 2008, local sculptor Charles
(Chuck) Kubilos unveiled one of his latest works, a statue of St.
Thomas Aquinas, at Thomas Aquinas College. The 5-foot bronze statue,
depicting the saint seated and teaching with book in hand, was commissioned
by the college's founding president and faculty member, Dr. Ronald
P. McArthur, and his wife, Marilyn. It now graces the foyer of the
4-year college's new faculty office building named for the school's
patron. The dedication, held in St. Thomas Hall on the campus, began
at 12:00 noon, and a private luncheon in honor of the McArthurs
followed.
"We are most grateful to the McArthurs for this generous gift,
so beautifully crafted by Mr. Kubilos," said current president
Dr. Thomas Dillon. "The dedication ceremony was an occasion
on which to honor the McArthurs for their generosity and for the
untold sacrifices they made in helping to bring Thomas Aquinas College
to life. Thirty-seven years later, it is clear that their hard work
and singular dedication have born great fruit: Thomas Aquinas College
is now highly-regarded across the country and in Rome not only for
its rigorous academic program but also for its fidelity to the Church
and its discipleship to her 'Universal Doctor,' St. Thomas Aquinas."
