Cal Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a prior bachelor’s degree. The maximum Cal Grant award for the 2011-12 award year is currently set at $9,708 (plus an additional $1,551 in some cases), although this award amount is tentative and subject to final approval of the State Budget.
The College credits Cal Grant funds toward the cost of tuition. Ordinarily, Cal Grant disbursements take place once each semester. Fall payments are posted to student accounts in December and Spring payments are posted in January.
The deadline for applying for a Cal Grant is March 2, 2011. The College requires all California residents seeking aid from the College to apply for this grant. If a student fails to apply and would have been eligible, he may be held responsible for the amount of the lost Cal Grant. See How to Apply for the Cal Grant for more information.
