Theater

Theater is a beloved supplement to the Thomas Aquinas College curriculum. Comedies and tragedies, both Shakespearean and Greek, and Gilbert and Sullivan musicals are often featured in the annual spring performance.

On the West Coast, a student group called the St. Genesius Players works meticulously for several months each year to stage these productions. In New England, the first formal play performance is slated for the spring of 2021. The students are set to perform Shakespeare’s As You Like It under the direction of Joe Rivera (’17).

Music

Beyond the curriculum’s formal study of music in the junior year, TAC students have numerous opportunities to develop their musical abilities and share them with the community.

Athletics

“The Church cannot but encourage everything that serves in harmoniously developing the human body,” Pope St. John Paul II told Italian athletes in 1981. “It is rightly considered the masterpiece of the whole of creation, not only because of its proportion, strength, and beauty, but also and especially because God has made it His dwelling place and the instrument of an immortal soul, breathing into it that ‘breath of life’ by which man is made in His image and likeness.”

The Curriculum

The Liberal Arts are first in the order of learning. The objects of these seven arts are constructed within the intellect, not outside, as are the objects of the technical arts. The carpenter’s house, the health of the doctor’s patient, and the republic fashioned by the statesman all exist apart from the mind; the objects of the liberal arts do not. The principles proper to these arts are formally studied in tutorials.
