Each year, when seniors read Russian novels as part of the seminar curriculum, Thomas Aquinas College’s Lithuanian librarian, Viltis Jatulis, hosts a soirée, like those portrayed in Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. The centerpiece for these gatherings, which take place in St. Bernardine of Siena Library, is an elegant vessel: a century-old Russian samovar.

On Friday morning, Thomas Aquinas College was blessed with a visit from the Most Rev. Carlo Maria Viganò, Apostolic Nuncio Emeritus to the United States of America. His Excellency stopped by during a trip to Southern California, where he met with the Most Rev. Kevin Vann, Bishop of Orange, and visited the Norbertine Fathers of St. Michael’s Abbey. The Archbishop toured the campus, viewed damage from the Thomas Fire, and offered Mass in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel. He then joined President Michael F. McLean and Dean John J.

Before the Thomas Fire, before the deadly mudslides in Santa Barbara County, there was, one night last November, the Thomas Aquinas College Choir’s Fall Concert — video of which is now available. The performance serves as a much-needed consolation after several weeks of disaster and tragedy. Enjoy!

In light of the ongoing rainstorms and mudslides in Santa Barbara County, the Most Rev. Robert Barron has postponed the post-Thomas Fire Mass of Thanksgiving that was scheduled to take place at Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday, January 10. A new date for the Mass will be announced after the dangers have subsided.

Please pray for the affected residents in Bishop Barron’s pastoral region, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
