As the fall semester drew to a close, the men of St. Bernard’s hosted a British-themed date night, complete with a croquet tournament, on the lawn outside their residence hall:
Bringing the joy of Advent and the promise of Christmas into the marketplace, some 150 Thomas Aquinas College students descended on Ventura’s Pacific View Mall on the first Saturday of December to stage a choral “flash mob.”
On Saturday, December 6, the students of Thomas Aquinas College transformed St. Joseph Commons into a formal ballroom for the annual Christmas dance:
As is custom at the College, a large portion of the evening was dedicated to student-produced entertainment, with songs, skits, a dance number, and a dramatic reading of “The Night Before Christmas” for children of faculty members.
On December 5 the Thomas Aquinas College Choir performed a complete, unabridged production of Handel’s Messiah at its annual Advent Concert in St. Joseph Commons. Photos from the concert, which is part of the St. Vincent de Paul Lecture and Concert Series, are available in the slideshow below:
On Monday, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Head Chaplain Rev. Hildebrand Garceau, O.Praem., led students in a consecration to Jesus through Mary in Our lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel. Students have prepared themselves for the consecration by reading 33 Days to Morning Glory by Rev.
On Wednesday evening the Office of Career Services hosted a visit from Anthony Grumbine (’00), a design associate at Harrison Design in Santa Barbara, California. A graduate of the master’s program at the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture, Mr. Grumbine spoke about the state of architecture and the employment prospects for would-be architects today. He also discussed Notre Dame’s architecture program, calling it “the best thing going,” and telling the College’s students that, because of their classical background, they “have a great advantage at getting into it.”
On Saturday evening President Michael F. McLean hosted students, faculty, and staff at an all-college Thanksgiving dinner. The evening included remarks from Dr. McLean, music by the student choral group Chrysostomos and, of course, turkey and all the fixings.
On Sunday, November 23, the upperclassmen squared off against the underclassmen in Thomas Aquinas College’s annual Turkey Bowl flag-football game. Both sides fought hard, but the upperclassmen simply overpowered their younger opponents, claiming a 21-0 shutout victory.
On Friday night the College hosted the inaugural concert of this year’s St. Vincent DePaul Lecture and Concert Series. Classical guitarist and Grammy nominee Paul Galbraith played two Bach suites, a Mozart suite and Sonata, and a Bach Cello Suite on the eight-stringed Brahms Guitar, which he helped to develop.
