With the spring semester drawing to a close, the College’s intramural soccer league recently concluded its season with two exciting championship games. First the women’s teams took the field for an intense match that went into overtime. The men’s teams played afterward, only barely finishing in time for underclassman seminar.

Over the course of these next three days of the Easter Triduum, many Thomas Aquinas College students will spend their time in retreat, praying over, reading, and discussing the works of the Church’s next saint — Bl. John Paul II.

Giving thanks to God “for Dr. Dillon and for all the kind and generous people who have built this school,” the Most Rev. José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles, visited Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday. The day marked both a solemn occasion and a joyous one — the fifth anniversary of the death of President Thomas E. Dillon, and the blessing of two bronze plaques and a book that honor the benefactors of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel.

On Saturday evening, the freshman class hosted this year’s spring formal, with an “Oscars” theme. Entertainment consisted of a skit mimicking the Academy Awards ceremony. With random awards, a faux ad, and a musical ode to the seniors, the freshmen kept their audience laughing. They then treated the school to a relaxing evening of dancing and delicious food.

The women of Thomas Aquinas College met on the campus fields Saturday morning for the annual “Powder Puff Bowl” — a friendly game of flag football, with their male classmates serving as coaches and referees. The two squads arrived early to warm up, while fans gathered and several students played music and told jokes over the loudspeakers.

At the conclusion of Senior Seminar last Thursday night, Thomas Aquinas College chaplains Rev. Joseph Illo and Rev. Hildebrand Garceau, O.Praem., held a wine-and-cheese reception for members of the Class of 2014.

Having completed their theses, and now working their way through their theses defenses, the Seniors are rapidly approaching Commencement!
