On Saturday evening, Catholics from all 39 parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Santa Barbara pastoral region gathered to honor their newly canonized patron, St. Junipero Serra, and their new episcopal vicar, the Most Rev. After 97 years of a life spent in generous service to the Catholic Church, Rosemary E. Donohue passed away this past Friday. The date of her death — November 13, 2015 — is a fitting one, as it is the feast of America’s first saint, Frances Xavier Cabrini. Like Mother Cabrini, Miss Donohue was a champion of education, health care, and religious communities — and a spiritual mother to many.

The Supreme Court of the United States has granted a writ of certiorari to Thomas Aquinas College’s challenge of the HHS contraceptive mandate.

At their Friday, November 6, conference, the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court will consider Thomas Aquinas College’s petition for a writ of certiorari in its challenge of the HHS contraception mandate. The justices will also consider other lawsuits against the mandate, which seeks to compel Catholic religious institutions to facilitate free contraceptive, abortifacient, and sterilization coverage for their employees.
