After the close of classes on Friday, some 230 Thomas Aquinas College students departed for San Francisco and the 15th annual Walk for Life West Coast. They arrived late in the night at North Beach’s Saints Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco, where the Salesian fathers graciously offered them places to sleep. The next morning, they attended Mass and then headed over to the Civic Center Plaza for the Walk.

After the close of classes on Friday, some 230 Thomas Aquinas College students met up behind St. Joseph Commons to begin their pilgrimage to San Francisco and the Walk for Life West Coast. They heard some encouraging words from Dean John J. Goyette, then received a blessing from chaplains Rev. Cornelius M. Buckley, S.J., and Rev. Paul Raftery, O.P., before boarding four buses and numerous cars for the voyage north.

Their seven-hour, 350-mile journey is now under way. Please pray for their safe travels and their witness!

A longtime friend of the College, Dr. Duane Berquist passed away this afternoon with family at his side. Dr. Berquist was the brother of College co-founder Marcus R. Berquist and the father of an alumna, Maria (Caughron ’93). He taught many Thomas Aquinas College faculty members in graduate school and he lectured on campus numerous times over the years, most recently giving the St. Thomas Day Lecture in 2014.
