On Saturday, November 18, the upperclassmen squared off against the underclassmen in Thomas Aquinas College’s annual Turkey Bowl flag-football game.

Both sides fought hard, but the upperclassmen simply overpowered their younger opponents, shutting them out for a 12-0 victory.

On November 17 the Thomas Aquinas College Choir hosted a Thanksgiving concert in St. Joseph Commons as part of the St. Vincent de Paul Lecture and Concert Series. The Choir performed Vivaldi’s Gloria in D major and Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C.

This past week Thomas Aquinas College President Michael F. McLean visited New England and stopped by the Northfield property in Massachusetts, a magnificent gift made to the College by the National Christian Foundation last spring. Patrick Cross, a graduate of the College’s Class of 2014 who lives nearby and gives tours of the site to interested visitors, was on hand to greet Dr. McLean.

On Friday night the College hosted the inaugural concert of this year’s St. Vincent DePaul Lecture and Concert Series. Classical guitarist and Grammy nominee Paul Galbraith performed music by J. S. Bach, Alexander Scriabin, Isaac Albéniz, and Franz Joseph Haydn — all on the eight-stringed Brahms Guitar, which he helped to develop.

The American Council of College Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) has released its annual report (PDF) on the curricular strength of American institutions of higher learning and, once again, Thomas Aquinas College is at the very top of the list.

Students met on the lower portion of the campus on Saturday for what was billed as Thomas Aquinas College’s “Second-Ever Spearshake Festival.” That is not a typo. The festival was not dedicated to the Bard of Avon, but to the art of hurling spears … into a haystack.

College tutor Dr. Christopher Oleson, a trained martial artist, organized the event, which promised, “Real spears. Real Prizes. Real Glory.”
