For Glory! Underclassmen Dominate in 2021 Turkey Bowl

In the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, sure to be packed with football games televised from far-off fields and right at home in backyards, TAC’s California campus came together last Saturday for the annual Turkey Bowl. The Underclassmen men faced off against the Upperclassmen men in an intense game of flag-football for glory, fun, and fellowship.

Before it even started, the game promised to be one to remember. Sideline commentators Gianna (’25) and Grace Brittain (’23) offered hilarious commentary, not missing single opportunity for a joke. The bleachers were packed, and the crowd wild with anticipation: Which team would come out on top? Who would triumph? Which classes would take the Turkey Bowl? With this atmosphere and these questions on everyone’s mind, the excitement was palpable.

The first half burst into action: Freshman Jack Mering surged ahead and scored a touchdown on the opening drive. The crowd, electric and enthused, roared in response. A thundering start, it was clear the Underclassmen came to win, and their elders met them with ardor.

Back and forth, the teams stayed neck and neck throughout the first half. Players of every grade level had a chance to shine, with the teams crashing against each other; forces of nature, fitting for an epic poem. To cinch the first half, senior Timmy Wassel took advantage of a broken play and stole back a touchdown without opposition. The half ended with scores too close for comfort — Upperclassmen: 9, Underclassmen: 13.

The second half began with an Upperclassmen touchdown, but the Underclassmen quickly tore ahead. Touchdown after touchdown, the gap between the teams widened. Unstoppable, the youngers steamrolled, concluding an eventful 90 minutes with a final score of 40 to 19.

The Underclassmen came, saw, and conquered. The Turkey Bowl was theirs.
