Healthcare Talk

Medical careers are a popular post-graduation ambition among students at Thomas Aquinas College. As a resource for interested students, Andrea Huch, the College’s career advisor, hosted an informational talk — “Career Options in Healthcare” — on both campuses last Wednesday.

Equipped with an illustrative presentation, Ms. Huch introduced her attendees to the vast realm of healthcare professions, providing an overview of the various career paths: specialized and general, clinical and non-clinical, all the way from phlebotomy to neurosurgery. She also showcased an extensive list of reputable post-grad education options, informing students about the next steps, particularly emphasizing the importance of gaining experience through volunteering, internships, and networking. “If you show interest, and you’re motivated, others will help you,” explained Ms. Huch. “The key is to be persistent, and don’t give up!”

The talk was followed by a question-and-answer session, which touched on topics such as navigating moral and ethical dilemmas in the healthcare field, as well as balancing medical school with family life. In the last part of her presentation, Ms. Huch encouraged the students in attendance with a famous quotation from Mark Twain: “The secret of getting ahead is getting started!”
