“I would get so discouraged in high school, being given just formulas with no explanation,” recalls Jo Dragoo, echoing a frustration that high school students often have with mathematics, as conventionally taught.

Last Sunday the sophomore class of Thomas Aquinas College, California, hosted the seniors on St. Gladys Patio for the annual Sophomore-Senior brunch. “It’s been a great four years of pursuing the intellectual life,” said Ian Cummings (’22). “This is a great way to celebrate that with community.”

Last Saturday, on the St. Gladys Patio beneath a starry Spring night, the Class of 2022 hosted peers and friends for the annual “Chez Martin” dance.  Illuminated by lights strung overhead, the Salinas Ensemble — led by pianist Danny Salinas— (’22) played live jazz featuring several rotating student performers. Throughout the dance, student enjoyed limbo competitions and funny anecdotes from the soon-to-be-departing seniors.

The students, faculty, and staff of Thomas Aquinas College, California, saw just what the possibilities could be last Friday as they crowded into St. Cecilia Hall’s Fritz B. Burns Auditorium for the Choir’s performance of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. Student thespians brought the operetta to life onstage, while just below, an orchestra composed primarily of students and alumni helped to fill the hall with lively music.
