When he was 13 years old in Bakersfield, California, Thomas Aquinas College tutor Dr. Thomas J. Kaiser once found an injured red-tailed hawk. After bringing the bird home, he went to the library and read every book he could find about falconry.

Some 250 alumni from four decades of graduating classes gathered on the academic quadrangle Saturday evening for the annual Alumni Association dinner. Amid toasts and much reminiscing, the attendees took the occasion to honor one of their beloved former tutors, Dr. Carol Day, who, after 35 years, is retiring from the College’s teaching faculty.

A revolutionary on behalf of women and their children, Mary White died last Thursday, June 2, at the age of 93. Mrs. White was a co-founder of La Leche League International (LLI) and a devoted wife and mother. A longtime friend of Thomas Aquinas College, she was the mother of three alumni and the grandmother of nine more.

“I just felt like setting some goals,” says Rose Carlman (’17), thinking back to her freshman and sophomore years, when she first took up running in a serious way. “So I decided to run a marathon.”

She ran her first, in Van Nuys, California, on Valentine’s Day, 2015. Having thus achieved her goal, she set her sights on another — Boston, the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual marathon, which is open only to top runners who have posted qualifying finish times elsewhere.

At its spring meeting, the Thomas Aquinas College Board of Governors voted unanimously to reappoint Dr. Michael F. McLean as president of Thomas Aquinas College. “Dr. McLean has served ably over the past six and a half years,” says Chairman R. Scott Turicchi. “On behalf of the Board of Governors, I extend to him my deepest gratitude and my sincere congratulations.”
