Following last week’s Sophomore-Freshman dance, the juniors took their turn welcoming members of the Class of 2018 on Saturday night with a dance of their own. The event had a beach theme and began with skits and song before moving on to swing-dancing and refreshments:

On Saturday morning a small but hearty group of Thomas Aquinas College women arose early and hiked up to the “painter’s shack” in the hills above campus. There they prayed, took in the sunrise, and marveled at the glorious views of campus, the mountains, and the surrounding Los Padres National Forest. Each fall the sophomores, juniors, and seniors take turns staging welcome events for the new freshman class. This past weekend, the sophomores got the ball rolling, hosting an informal dance just outside St. Joseph Commons, complete with skits, comedy, and plenty of swing-dancing:

On Saturday members of the College community gathered on the athletic fields for the annual All-College Picnic. The afternoon began with an inter-class tug-of-war, followed by a refreshing dive in a make-shift slip-n-slide. Finally was the picnic itself — a chance for upperclassmen to reconnect after the summer and to get to know members of the freshman class:

After consulting with attorneys, members of the Board of the Governors, and fellow members of the faculty, Thomas Aquinas College President Michael F. McLean has expressed skepticism about the Obama Administration’s latest “accommodation” to the HHS Contraceptive Mandate. “The revised accommodation does not appear to address the College’s concerns about materially cooperating in the provision of coverage for morally objectionable procedures and medications,” says Dr. McLean.
