Dappled Things, the Catholic literary journal, has announced the finalists for its 2021 J. F. Powers Prize for Short Fiction, and among them is a recent TAC graduate: Nnadozie Onyekuru (’17)

“I wrote a draft of the story about 10 years ago and forgot about it,” admits Mr. Onyekuru. “Last year, however, I took a hard look at it, saw its deficiencies and, with the help of God’s grace, revised it.”

Titled “Decision,” the story is one of just 26 from among more than 400 submissions, which the magazine’s editors praised for “the beauty and depth packed into the work submitted.” It now moves to the contest’s next round.

“Thomas Aquinas College made a mark on my soul,” Mr. Onyekuru recently wrote, with characteristic humility, on his Facebook page. “I have never ceased to marvel at that gift of a TAC education which I know I did not deserve. May God bless the College’s founders and all who contribute to its being more established.”
