In celebration of the Easter season and the dawning of spring, members of the Thomas Aquinas College, California, Class of 2029 joined together this past Saturday to throw their first school dance.

With a semester’s worth of festivities from the classes above them, the freshmen created a lovely evening for their peers straight out of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The night kicked off with an entertainment video showcased in St. Cecilia Hall: a short rendition of the dance’s theatrical theme-sake with a TAC twist. The audience roared with laughter all throughout and applauded as the end credits rolled.

Spirits raised, the crowds migrated over to St. Joseph Commons, where they were instantly transported to a rural Italian party hall decked with warm fairy lights and green garlands. A tapestry depicting the golden Tuscan countryside, accompanied by Italian songs and cuisine completed the setting. The Commons became a sea of white florals and red accents as duos flooded the floor for swing-dancing and waltzes.

At nine o’clock sharp, the annual swing-dancing competition commenced. Over the course of three rounds, couples went head-to-head on the dance floor, judged by their grace, talent, and musicality. With such an impressive array of dancers, it was not easy for judges to name a winner, but after much discussion, they settled on Wassell sibling duo, John (CA’29) and Brigid (CA’27).

Complemented by a post-competition tiramisu bar, the festivities and fun continued well into the night. “This dance is so beautiful and festive,” said Michael Rivera (CA’26). “Overall, a great way to celebrate the octave of Easter!”
