“All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” chanted Cecilia Alvarez (’24) in front of a packed Moody Auditorium as she prophesied that the play’s title character, portrayed by Nathanael Cassidy (’22), would be the next king of Scotland.

On Saturday, students and friends of Thomas Aquinas College, along with faculty and their families, gathered on the New England campus for a student production of the Shakespearean tragedy. The production, co-directed by Joe Rivera (’17) and Elizabeth Meany (’20), led the audience through Macbeth’s rollercoaster of motivations — ambition, fear, and tragedy. Over the course of five acts in the span of three hours, the performers enthralled the audience with grand costumes and elegant stage decorations.

“There are so many moving parts between the people, the set, and the props, and I am so impressed by how the students were able to bring Shakespeare’s elements to life on stage for everyone to appreciate his work,” said Mr. Rivera.

The performance of Norah O’Brien (’24), playing the role of Lady Macbeth, captured the audience’s emotions with her striking semblance of madness. “From reading my lines over and over, I was able to understand the role that Lady Macbeth played and her transition from a lucid person into a psychotic,” said Norah. “Overall, I think the play turned out amazing, and I was so proud of the crew.”
