The Class of 2025 faced off against the faculty Wednesday for the highly anticipated seniors-versus-tutors softball game, followed by a barbeque and the Senior Thesis draft-burning party.

After classes on a beautiful spring afternoon, the seniors gathered on the diamond, determined to be the first class in New England to beat the tutors in the annual match. The seniors batted first, but it was the experienced tutors who took the lead almost immediately. Dr. Paul Shields and Dr. Daniel Gutschke distinguished themselves with their impressive catches and powerful hits. Senior, comedian, and baseball fanatic Michael Dolcetti (‘25) provided humorous live commentary, much to the entertainment of the crowd. In the end, after five innings, the tutors schooled the seniors with a 9–0 victory, maintaining their undefeated streak.

After the game, Dean Steven Cain and his wife, Mary, generously hosted a barbeque dinner for the tutors, their families, and the seniors. Following dinner, the Class of 2025 gathered around a fire, Senior Thesis drafts in hand. The soon-to-be graduates ceremoniously burned the various drafts of their work, offering a toast, a few words of thanks, and a funny epitaph to their advisors and classmates before submitting their pages to the flames.

“I’m really going to miss my thesis,” said Thaddeus Gotcher (’25). “It was the most satisfying work of my life so far.”
