The men’s and women’s all-class basketball tournaments commenced this past Saturday at Thomas Aquinas College, California, as the teams went head-to-head in their respective division championships. Semifinals were held the week prior, and the advancing teams — sophomores and seniors for the women, juniors and seniors for the men — were eager for their chance to claim the title.

In the women’s championship game, the sophomores faced off against the seniors. Both teams fought valiantly, but senior girls won handily, claiming the victory by a final score of 39-16. “In last year’s championship, we weren’t able to beat the seniors, but we were so close. This year, we were especially excited to play the sophomores, who have some of the best players at the school. We really wanted the win this time,” explained senior Maggie Lemmon (CA’26). “Well, we did it, and it was a blast. I’m super proud of this team!”

Immediately after the women’s match, the men took the court for a final game between upperclassmen. The seniors brought talent and team spirit on their side; the juniors, meanwhile, are renowned on campus for their basketball skills — and their height.

In the beginning of the game, the teams stayed neck-and-neck. Before long, however, the juniors sailed into the lead, bolstered by the cheers of fans on the sidelines. The senior team never gave up, though, despite the vast discrepancy in points throughout the game. But with the final buzzer, and a score of 57-33, the Class of 2027 won the title of men’s class champions. Junior Xavier Grimm (CA’27) laughed, “I’m just glad the rest of my team was over six feet, because I didn’t have to do much. It was quite luxurious!”
