The students of Thomas Aquinas College, New England, gathered for a celebration of classical music at this fall’s “Schubertiade” last Sunday. Student and alumni musicians, joined by a few faculty children, performed soaring operatic solos along with dramatic piano compositions and melodic ensembles.

As the celebration began, the campus’ choir director, Stephen Grimm (’75), provided a brief history of “Schubertiade” and encouraged participants to join in song with a traditional piece from Franz Schubert himself. The audience, consisting of students and staff, delighted in thrilling duets and then moved to placid viola pieces.

“Since this event is not as serious as a concert but more formal than open-mic night, we have students who really surprise us with different instruments,” observes junior Rebecca Schuerer. Adds fellow junior Bernadette Mohun, “Many of us were working on other pieces for the theater production, so I am really impressed with how the Schubertiade turned out.”

The slideshow below features videos and photos from several of the performances.
