With two weeks of studying and final exams looming ahead, TAC-New England students organized a volleyball tournament last Friday to turn their attention and energy, if only for an afternoon, from the intellectual to the physical.

The weather was cool but sunny, making it the perfect atmosphere for a tournament. Four teams competed, two against two, under the leadership of captains Tommy Fallon (’26) vs. Bella Martinez (’26), and Enzo Giovinazzi (’26) vs. Therese Lickona (’28). Two teams played outdoors on the athletic field while two faced off in Pope St. John Paul II Athletic Center.

After three neck-in-neck games in the gym between Teams Fallon and Martinez, the latter emerged victorious. Outside, Team Lickona secured the win, setting up a final game indoors.

The championship match proved remarkably even, with both teams matching point for point nearly to the end. After an intensely close game, the tournament concluded in a draw, leaving the rivals destined for a rematch sometime in the future.

“It was great after a long week of classes to have a nice competitive and enjoyable afternoon of volleyball,” said Colin Daly (’29) afterward. “You can’t beat a good game of volleyball with all your friends!”
