Responding to a rare order from the U.S. Supreme Court, attorneys representing Thomas Aquinas College and its 34 co-plaintiffs today filed a supplemental brief brief in their ongoing case against the HHS Contraceptive Mandate.

On Saturday, May 14, the Most Rev. Salvatore J. Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, will serve as Commencement Speaker at Thomas Aquinas College’s annual graduation exercises. During the event, His Excellency, who heads the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage, will receive the College’s highest award, the Saint Thomas Aquinas Medallion, in recognition of his lifelong fidelity and service to the Catholic Church.

While visiting with members of the Curia in Rome, President Michael F. McLean, Chairman of the Board of Governors R. Scott Turicchi, and Governor Lloyd Noble had the privilege of attending a Mass this morning offered by His Eminence Giovanni Cardinal Lajolo, President Emeritus of the Vatican City State. A friend of the College, Cardinal Lajolo visited the campus and presented a lecture in 2008.

Thomas Aquinas College officials have responded with optimism to the U.S. Supreme Court’s order — less than a week after hearing oral arguments in the case of Zubik v. Burwell — that both sides file supplemental briefs to aid the justices in their decision. “This is encouraging news,” says President Michael F. McLean.

What brought me to Thomas Aquinas College — some 6,000 miles from my home in Buenos Aires, Argentina — were two of my high school teachers, who were probably two of my favorite people in the world. Both were graduates of the College.
