At its spring meeting, the Thomas Aquinas College Board of Governors voted unanimously to reappoint Dr. Michael F. McLean as president of Thomas Aquinas College. “Dr. McLean has served ably over the past six and a half years,” says Chairman R. Scott Turicchi. “On behalf of the Board of Governors, I extend to him my deepest gratitude and my sincere congratulations.”
On the eve of Commencement 2016, Thomas Aquinas College President Michael F. McLean hosted a late-afternoon reception for members of the Senior Class and their parents at the Doheny Hacienda. Afterward, the College Parents’ and Alumni Associations jointly hosted their third annual dinner for graduates and their families in St. Joseph Commons. Tlaquepaque, a popular local Mexican restaurant, served fresh tacos with all the fixings:
Today the United States Supreme Court unanimously issued an order in Zubik v. Burwell, a case challenging the HHS mandate that religious institutions must facilitate the provision of insurance coverage for contraceptives, abortifacients, and other objectionable services to their employees, contrary to their deeply held religious beliefs. Thomas Aquinas College is a co-plaintiff in the case.

Note: At its 2016 Commencement exercises, Thomas Aquinas College honored Viltis Jatulis, who, after 45 years of faithful service, is stepping down as the head librarian of St. Bernardine of Siena Library. Below are the remarks that College President Michael F. McLean delivered in Mrs. Jatulis’ honor:
On May 14, Thomas Aquinas College celebrated its 42nd Commencement Exercises, honoring the 79 members of the Class of 2016. The day began with the Baccalaureate Mass of the Holy Spirit in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel. The Most Rev. Salvatore J. Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, served as the principal celebrant and homilist:
Note: At its 2016 Commencement exercises, Thomas Aquinas College awarded its highest honor, the Saint Thomas Aquinas Medallion, to the Most Rev. Salvatore J. Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco.
Note: Each year the graduating class elects one of its members to present the Senior Address at Commencement. Upon graduation, this year’s speaker, April Shonnard of Carson City, Nevada, plans to pursue studies in speech therapy.
