Rev. Sebastian Walshe, O.Praem. (’94), made Catholic Answers Live history on March 2, when he appeared on the program with fellow TAC alumnus Thomas Graf (’19), the organization’s social-media manager and substitute host for the day.

“In the nearly three decades that this show has been on air, this — to my knowledge — is the first time that the guest and host have both been alumni of Thomas Aquinas College,” revealed Mr. Graf. “This is a landmark occasion.”

It was a remarkable reunion in more ways than one: Fr. Sebastian, a professor of philosophy at St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado, California, also reminisced about meeting the show’s host for the first time while serving as chaplain on the College’s Great Books High School Summer Program, when Mr. Graf was just 16 years old. “It makes me very proud to see that the students I cared for spiritually so many years ago are flourishing,” Fr. Sebastian shared.

With pleasantries and milestones out of the way, the pair moved on with the show, first briefly discussing Fr. Sebastian’s upcoming book about the trials of the Holy Family. “It’s a beautiful reflection on the ways in which the Holy Family, who outwardly had the most exceptional circumstances in their life, had the perfect family life because of their interior response to those very difficult outward experiences,” the Norbertine priest explained. “It’s a model for all of us because everyone will have problems in their families, outwardly, that they will face, and to have such an extraordinary example of heroic virtue of the interior life of the Holy Family is a really beautiful thing.”

Fr. Sebastian also spoke on a traditionally held belief that St. Joseph’s body was assumed into heaven, offering typological examples and in-depth analyses of Scripture as evidence. For the rest of the hour, he and Mr. Graf held a live “Ask a Priest” session with their listeners, tackling questions about translations of the Bible, praying to saints and for souls in Purgatory, the Sacrament of Confession, and more.
