In the most recent installment of the 2025 St. Vincent de Paul Lecture and Concert Series, Thomas Aquinas College, California, welcomed Dr. Tomás Bogardus, who spoke on the subject, “The Neo-Aristotelian Nature of the Sexes.”

A philosophy professor at Pepperdine University, Dr. Bogardus is on the philosophical frontlines of the gender ideology battle. As College faculty member Dr. Christopher Oleson, a friend of Dr. Bogardus, stated in his opening remarks: “If you would like to benefit from Dr. Bogardus’s formidable jiu-jitsu skills, he teaches at our local studio most Tuesday nights; but we are here tonight because Dr. Bogardus’s ability to grapple with ideas and arguments is even more formidable.”

The aim of Dr. Bogardus’s Friday-night lecture was to raise and debunk popular modern definitions of gender, leaving his audience well-equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for truth. “This is very much a live issue in our culture,” he said. “It is important to be prepared and to be educated, so that if you are called to participate in this battle, you will be ready.”

Dr. Bogardus kept the audience engaged with a slideshow, straightforward explanations, and his quick wit. Using logical arguments, simple linguistic tests, and natural observations, he offered a definition for each of the sexes: to be male is to have the function of producing sperm, and to be female is to have the function of producing eggs. To conclude, he raised and answered possible objections about disorders, malfunction, and various anomalies found in the animal kingdom, demonstrating the reliability of his definitions.

A well-attended question-and-answer session followed, where attendees had many thought-provoking conversations.
