Upbeat music played in the air Friday afternoon as prefects busied themselves dishing out root beer floats with zest and zeal at a table surrounded by book-bearing ice cream enthusiasts. The last class of the afternoon was out, and students on the New England campus gathered on Gould Lawn to unwind from the activity of their first week of classes.

The students milled about, discussing section topics and upcoming activities. The morning was cloudy and damp, but the sun made its appearance in the afternoon, just in time to grace the party and contribute to the cheerful spirit of the event. “Events like this really contribute to the congenial spirit of the school,” observed Karolina Pencina (NE‘29). “It was really nice to have something to look forward to at the end of a busy school day!”

The party was perfect for a little relaxation and quality time. The whole school had the opportunity to get to know the new students and catch up with those they hadn’t seen since the year before. In the words of prefect Daniela Van Wyk (NE‘26), as she energetically shoveled copious quantities of ice cream into plastic cups, “A little root beer, a little chat, what more could you want?”
