The New England campus’s first Open House of the academic year occurred last Saturday, as visiting students and families arrived in Northfield to spend a day familiarizing themselves with the College, its classes, and the TAC community.

The Open House was an all-day event designed to accommodate the family, acquainting siblings and parents alike with the College. “We had something for everybody,” says Admissions Manager Amy Augros. “It was a great opportunity for a whole family to come.”

The day began with Mass in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, followed by a welcome brunch and campus tour. Afterward, visitors headed to Dolben Auditorium, where College tutor Dr. Sean Cunningham spoke about the merit and moment of liberal education, and why it is best pursued at Thomas Aquinas College. Following these presentations, New England Director of Admissions John Jost and Student Support Coordinator Emily Sullivan discussed the mission of the College, after which a panel of current students answered questions and gave a detailed view into their day-to-day lives.

Next, it was time for the seminar discussions. Students and parents split into separate groups so that each could engage in a seminar with peers. Over two seminar sessions, visitors explored the connecting theme of justice through Plato’s Crito and a passage from St. Thomas Aquinas’s Summa Theologiae on the justice and mercy of God. Between pondering virtues, students enjoyed doughnuts and apple cider in St. Frassati Student Center, while parents and adults partook in a wine and cheese reception.

The day came to a close after the last seminar, and the faculty and students made their farewells to the visitors.

“We don’t see this as the end of our journey together,” comments Mr. Jost. “We hope to host more of these events in the future and welcome everyone who attended back to campus.”
