Nearly a month into the academic year, the sophomores welcomed the freshmen to Thomas Aquinas College, California, with a dance straight out of the Prohibition Era.

Students arrived dressed in a variety of 1920s apparel, from newsboy caps and suspenders to vintage dresses. To start the evening, students from all classes crowded into St. Cecilia Hall to watch a pre-dance short film prepared by the sophomores: a light-hearted drama about a student who finds himself involved with an underground caffeine-dealing business, in a world where caffeine intake is outlawed at TAC.

With spirits raised, sophomores and freshmen made their way to the patio, where Prohibition-themed signs and cardboard cut-out beer barrels surrounded the dance floor, and empty cans dangled from the trees. Freshman Johnny Ferri (CA‘29) remarked, “The Sophomore Class did a great job with the dance. I feel like I’m in the 1920s!”

Later in the evening, juniors and seniors arrived to join in on the fun, swing-dancing and waltzing well into the night.
