Spring Career Fair

“What can you do with a liberal arts degree?” It’s a question every Thomas Aquinas College student has heard from a well-meaning relative or friend; a question many students wrestle with themselves. The societal norm is clear: Get a specialized degree and do your specialized job. But there is no such specialization with a liberal arts degree; so, what is the next step? Every semester, the biannual Career Fair on the College’s California campus offers an opportunity for that discovery.

Early in the afternoon on Saturday, March 21, recruiters from a variety of organizations set up booths in St. Cecilia Hall to greet and talk with interested students. “The job fair is a great opportunity for students to interact with representatives from the top career fields for TAC alumni,” explained Riley Edwards (CA’28). “Even if they don’t move forward with a specific company, it still serves to educate them on the field and help them discern. The College has so many good connections, and this gives students the chance to take advantage of that.”

Throughout the day, attendees browsed the booths and engaged with representatives. They researched graduate school options such as The Catholic University of America; explored business opportunities in law with The Alvarez Firm, education with Mother of Divine Grace School, and insurance with Starr or Elevance Health, to name a few; and learned about nonprofit and missionary work with organizations such as The Culture Project. Some students even opted for introductory interviews with prospective employers, which took place in classrooms after the fair.

“There’s nothing more important than speaking to someone who’s been in a certain career and who knows what they’re doing,” said Isabel Garcia (CA’27). “They can help you build connections in that field to guide you as you’re moving into your future.”
