Alumni and parents of students past and present traveled to Thomas Aquinas College, New England, last weekend for a day of scholarship, fellowship, and fun.

Families began to arrive on Friday, and by brunch on Saturday morning there were almost 300 visitors on campus, all gathered around tables in Gould Hall and chatting with students and former classmates. After a welcome address from New England Dean Steven Cain, visitors and students headed to St. Gianna Molla Hall for a seminar on St. John Henry Newman’s Two Sermons on Faith. After the seminar, attendees enjoyed refreshments and a leisurely tour of the campus.

The afternoon sun slanted down on Kaiser Field as students, faculty, families, and alumni gathered for the Students vs. Parents and Alumni softball game. The Senior Class set up a well-stocked bake sale on the sidelines, and bystanders purchased churros, brownies, and muffins before settling down to watch the game. Two students took on the role of impromptu announcers, enthusiastically broadcasting the play-by-play over a loudspeaker. The students came away with an overwhelming win, defeating their elders by a score of 12-1. Meanwhile, those who preferred a quieter activity mingled by the pond, laughing and chatting as they recreated their picturesque surroundings with watercolor paints.

Dinner soon commenced under a tent outside St. Frassati Student Center, where all enjoyed a hearty barbecue dinner, followed by an ice-cream social for students and children and a dessert reception for parents and alumni. As the guests enjoyed cheese and macarons, College President Paul J. O’Reilly took the podium to thank attendees for coming and gave an overview of the College’s most recent updates. He introduced the new members of Thomas Aquinas College’s faculty, introduced changes and projects underway on both campuses, and petitioned for prayers and support.

“The students here are very impressive,” Dr. O’Reilly observed. “The faculty here are very impressive. After seven years, we are at almost 200 students, and we are well on our way to filling out this campus.” He concluded his address with a final promise and request for prayers, and the night came to a close with a classical concert featuring student performances.
