Last Sunday, students from Thomas More College made the trip to Thomas Aquinas College, New England, for a game of soccer.

About once per semester, since the early days of the New England campus, the two schools meet in friendly sporting matches, from ultimate frisbee, to basketball, to soccer. After a close defeat in basketball last semester — and the first loss against TMC to date — the TAC team was ready to redeem itself.

The weather was breezy and warm, and the sides of the soccer field were lined with enthusiastic supporters from both colleges. The game was close for the first half, as the teams put up excellent defense, until TAC’s Jamie Kelly (NE’27) scored the game’s first goal right before halftime. The fans cheered from the sidelines, while Resident Director Anthony Santine (CA’25) wittily announced significant moments over the loudspeaker. The game stayed close until, just before the final whistle, Justin Hoeing (NE’28) solidified TAC’s victory with another goal, making the final score TAC: 2, TMC: 0.

At the end of the game, players shook hands as students from both schools mingled, chatting about the game and the year’s progression. “Everyone was excited and fired up for this game,” said Mark Goyette (NE’26). “The crowd energy was amazing,” added his classmate, Liam O’Brien (NE’26). “It was a lot of fun.”
