When they reached the crest, Fr. Sebastian offered Mass under the open sky. In his homily, he spoke about the themes of forgiveness and Divine Providence, as he reflected on the day’s first reading, noting that Joseph could forgive his brothers for selling him into slavery because he understood the world in terms of God’s providence.
“Living life in the context of God’s providence makes superhuman things possible. It makes forgiveness possible. It makes accepting forgiveness possible. It makes a life already worthy of heaven on earth possible,” said Fr. Sebastian. “When you live your life in the context of eternity, in the context of God’s providence, impossible things become possible. … If you live in the context of eternity, you can really be the heroes that God made you to be.”
After receiving Jesus in the Eucharist and the end of the Mass, some students ran back to the campus, though most took their time and walked, arriving for brunch in St. Joseph Commons. Next up, the programmers will spend the day on the beach and the evening in beautiful Santa Barbara. Come and read all about it tomorrow on the Summer Program Blog!
