With just a couple of days left in the California High School Summer Program, attendees awoke this morning determined to give it their all until the finish, just as they did during yesterday’s Quad Run. After breakfast, they hustled to the classrooms for their penultimate classroom discussion.
For their only class of the day, students dove into the final books of Boethius’s Consolation of Philosophy. In today’s reading, Boethius questions Lady Philosophy about the difference between chance and Divine Providence, sparking discussions about the Final Judgement and action by necessity. Sections contemplated Lady Philosophy’s defense of free will, considering whether her arguments satisfy human reason and console the human heart. The tutors helped guide the classes as they considered these difficult questions, and students left with a better understanding of their role as humans and children of God.

Following this thought-provoking class, students prepared to exercise the mind in a different way as they got ready for a bus trip to the Getty Center, followed by a Brahms & Grieg concert tonight at the Hollywood Bowl. Tune back to the Summer Program Blog tomorrow to read all about their L.A. adventure!
