Students on the 2025 California High School Summer Program depart

There was a somber tone that rose with the sun as Sunday demanded goodbyes for the students of the California One Week High School Summer Program. One week ago, these 50 students were strangers; now they were saying farewell to beloved friends.

The students woke at varying hours of the morning to catch their flights and rides back home, though Saturday night be a late one. Everywhere there could be seen new friends hugging, reveling in the bonds they had forged and wishing they did not have to part so soon. There were promises made of seeing each other soon and of never letting go of the bond that this Summer Program nourished for them.

Parents and families came to pick up students from campus as others caught rides to the airport. The cars drove off, and students tried to hold the image of the campus, the winding road, the rolling hills, and the magnificent chapel in their hearts, reassuring themselves with the hope that it was only goodbye for now.

We hope you have enjoyed this blog! We are deeply grateful for the tireless efforts of the two students pictured below, writer/reporter Madeleine Brittain (CA’28) and photographer Abby DeKroon (CA’27), who have worked around the clock for the last two weeks to produce so many beautiful photos and timely updates!

And, while we are at it, let’s take a moment to thank those who made this program possible, starting with Director of Admissions Jon Daly and his incredible Admissions crew, Program Director Dr. John Finley, and our amazing chaplain, Rev. Miguel Batres, O.Praem. (’08). We also must thank the team of California Summer Program prefects (shown below), who make the magic of this program happen. Whether it’s rising early to lead hikes or staying up late to clean the Coffee Shop, this crew does it all. May God bless them for their loving dedication!

And so we say, goodbye. We hope many of this blog’s readers will find their way to TAC sometime soon — perhaps as parents of members of the Class of 2030! (And until then, if you would like to keep getting news about the life of the College, please subscribe to our quarterly Newsletter!)
