Students attending this year’s High School Summer Program in New England can look forward to two weeks of Great Books, great discussions, and deepening faith in a community of friends — all in the company of an awesome leadership team! Having introduced the head prefects, the Summer Blog now presents the first installment in a series of weekly profiles of rest of the crew.

To all those who have enrolled — we can’t wait to see you on July 13!

And if you haven’t enrolled yet, what are you waiting for?

Olivia Rosebrough (NE’26) of Kansas City, Missouri, was already midway through a degree at another college when she heard about Thomas Aquinas College through the alumni music group Floriani. “The way they spoke about their alma mater really struck me,” she said. “I was intrigued by the idea of a school that sought truth for its own sake.” That conversation led her to TAC’s website, where she realized that the College was the place she truly wanted to be.

“I always wanted to study philosophy in a way that is faithful to the teachings of the Church. TAC is the perfect place for that because not only is it deeply Catholic, it also aims to order your life toward God.” An avid reader and swimmer now back for her second time as a Summer Program prefect, Olivia couldn’t be more excited to show attendees the tight-knit community life that TAC offers.

A resident of Meriden, Connecticut, Justin Hoeing (NE’28) heard about Thomas Aquinas College through family friends. Although he was offered a full-ride soccer scholarship at another school, he chose to TAC instead. “I wanted to build a well-formed foundation of education,” he explains, “not just specialize in one or two things. TAC makes you a well-rounded person.”

An alumnus of the Summer Program himself, Justin looks forward to getting to know the attendees through sports. “It’s a great way to connect,” he says. “I also want to show them what the College is really like as accurately as possible.” Outside of classes, Justin fishes, plays guitar, and — of course — plays soccer.

Back for her third year as a prefect, Teresa Bingham (NE’26) grew up in Manassas, Virginia. She had a family connection who helped guide hew way to Thomas Aquinas College. “My uncle was in the Class of ’08,” she recalls. “So, it was always an option in the back of my mind.” What finally convinced her to come? “The orientation of the curriculum,” Teresa says. “It’s ordered toward making one a complete person. I don’t think anywhere else offers an education like that.”

Excited to be returning to the program once more, Teresa is eager to re-read the works that attendees discuss and introduce them to the TAC community — a community in which she plays a large role as an occasional director of plays, swing dancer, and swimming teacher for faculty children.
