Two students slide down the slip n' slide

Having completed their second day of classes, students on the New England High School Summer Program poured out of St. Gianna Molla Hall Tuesday afternoon, making their way down to the athletic field. Since Monday’s Section Games had to take place indoors, a few contests had been postponed — namely the water games!

Students once again split into their sections to form the teams, standing in long lines across the lawn. Their goal was to pass a water balloon down the line, throwing it backward between their legs, football style. If the balloon popped, the line would have to start all over. In the end, Section Three was victorious!

The prefects then gathered the students for their next game, huddling close to head prefect Luke Cecchi as he explained the rules. However, there were no rules, and there was no game. The programmers had let down their guards, and the prefects launched a stealthily planned water-balloon attack! Without knowing what hit them, the programmers took off running, as the prefects whooped and chased, but eventually some courageous programmers turned and dashed towards the ammunition to make it a fair fight!

Open recreation followed. The most popular activity this afternoon, by far, was the slip 'n slide that began at the top of the hill near the Pope St. John Paul II Athletic Center. Students slid down penguin-style, soaked through with the soapy suds. Time flew by as they ran back up the hill for a second go, then a third, a fourth ... who's keeping count, anyway?

Eventually, students made their way back to their residence halls to dry off and change before dinner. After filling up on sloppy joes and onion rings, they all journeyed to the library for Study Hall. Prefects Adelina Margand and Sam Peterson took roll, racing to see who could call off their list of names the fastest. It was close — almost a tie — but Sam finished first! Then students split off to read the first half of the book of Genesis, which will be the topic of discussion for Wednesday's classes.

From there, as the sun turned the campus gold, students prayed the Rosary in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, led by prefect Jonahs Chavez and several other students.

Around 9:30, students headed back to the residence halls, where the prefects had planned special activities! The women returned to find charcuterie boards, sparkling cider, and all the spa supplies a girl could want! Face masks, nail polish, and even foot baths were all available for the ladies.

The men, on the other hand, made a roaring bonfire. They ate snacks and socialized, enjoying their conversations and having a great time getting to know one another. It was a wonderful way to unwind after another exciting day!

One day had ended, but the Summer Program has only just begun! Please return to the Summer Blog this afternoon to read about the students' discussions on the book of Genesis!
