A student at the water's edge getting ready to throw the Frisbee

When we last left off, the 2021 California High School Summer Program crew had just boarded three large buses to make the one-hour trip up the Pacific Coast highway on its way to Carpinteria State Beach. Not long thereafter, prefects and attendees were on the sand and taking in what was for some their first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean.

The sun was shining, and the water was a perfect 70 degrees, so many waded right in for a refreshing swim. Some participated in games of volleyball and Spikeball, while others chose to simply sit on the warm sand and enjoy each other’s company. A few even emerged with boogie boards and surfboards to try their luck on the waves. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and the outing was a spectacular hit.

After a few hours the group began wrapping up and gradually making its way to the parking lot, where the buses were waiting to make the return trip to campus. Students all prayed Rosaries on the way back, and in a short time everyone was on campus and devouring a meal of pasta and chicken. Then it was off to St. Bernardine of Siena Library to prepare for today’s readings from Blaise Pascal, Jean-Henri Fabre, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

A delicious snack of brownies and ice cream followed in the coffee shop, and a large game of soccer and several board games were soon under way, all of which lasted right up until curfew. After what was the busiest day yet, the residence halls quieted down very quickly for the night.

Today it’s back to a full day of classes. See the SummerBlog this afternoon for details!
