To celebrate winter’s end, the Freshmen Class of Thomas Aquinas College, New England, treated upperclassmen to a Spring Formal on Saturday night with a flashback in time, transforming Tracy Student Center to 80 A.D. for an evening of escapade and community.

“We were torn between an ’80s theme and an ancient Roman theme, so we decided to throw them both together,” explained Juliana Bafundo (’25), who oversaw the decorations. “I’m pretty sure you’ll never have a dance like this again!”

Bringing the themes together took tremendous work as freshmen spent all Saturday afternoon brainstorming ideas and reconstructing Tracy into a totally ’80s ancient Rome. Their hard work paid off as students were astounded by the faux marble pillars lining the walls and the patterns splattering the dance floor. Along with the designs, freshman Susanna Pfeiffer treated her fellow students to homemade pizza and delicious home-made baklava.

Before the dancing commenced, freshman Christopher Wolfenden surprised his peers with a parody video starring several classmates. The video sportively recounted the students’ experiences in their first year at the College, sung to the tune of “Take on Me” by A-ha. “I had so much fun being in the video,” said Isabel Schönborn (’25). “It was a great way for our class to bond, and the end product was pretty hilarious.”

After a standing ovation, the ’80s tunes kicked on and the students danced in celebration of the spring’s arrival.
