Dance Class, Adoration, Study Hall & Coffee Shop

It was only fitting that the intellectual rigor of yesterday’s classes be followed not by mere diversion, but by … dance.

And so, after class, the programmers flocked to Olivia Music Hall for their second lesson. Under the graceful tutelage of prefects Stephen Brown (NE’25) and Teresa Bingham (NE’26), students learned floor spins, dips, and the smooth turns of East Coast swing. Far from being simply social or athletic, dancing, like geometry, is an art of proportion and harmony; like theology, it is a gesture toward joy and communion.

Dinner followed, but it was in Study Hall that the spirit of discipline once again animated the evening. Students turned to Book I of Euclid’s Elements, Propositions 4, 9, and 10, learning to demonstrate with clarity and elegance the truths of classical geometry. They did not simply memorize, but they came to understand the propositions and coached one another with meticulous care and eagerness. These were not solitary thinkers, but a community of learners seeking mastery and mutual support.

Study Hall

From the study rooms to the Student Center, the programmers moved again — this time into the gentle social pleasure of Italian sodas and ices. Frassati was filled with the bubble and bustle of light-hearted fellowship, games, and music.

The culmination of the evening was candlelit Eucharistic Adoration. Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, bathed in soft golden light, became a place where all the threads of the day’s activities were drawn together in stillness, song, and silent prayer. The choir’s music, angelic in its clarity and reverence, filled the silence rather than interrupting it. Cantare amantis est. Singing belongs to the one who loves.
