A member of the College’s newest graduating class, Stephen Brown (NE’25) is thrilled to return to the Summer Program for his final encore as a prefect. His journey to attending Thomas Aquinas College began with taking high school courses through Mother of Divine Grace, an online school founded by a member of the College’s first graduating class, Laura Berquist (’75). During his Summer Program, reading selections from TAC’s curriculum and experiencing the Discussion Method solidified Stephen’s attraction to the Catholic liberal education available at the College, and he applied soon thereafter. “I never looked back,” he says.

A lover of the active life as well as the contemplative, Stephen can be found on the soccer field, the dance floor, or in the coffee shop: anywhere with lots of people having fun. His favorite Summer Program memory — aside from classroom discussions — is the giant slip ‘n’ slide. “Hands down the most fun part of the program,” he laughs. “I guarantee the attendees haven’t experienced a slip ‘n’ slide like this before!”

Rising sophomore Madeline O’Kray (NE’28) is thrilled to be joining this year’s Summer Program prefect team for the first time. “I didn’t go to the Summer Program,” she says, “so I’m excited to get to experience it along with the attendees!”

Madeline first learned about Thomas Aquinas College from fellow prefect and Manassas, Virginian Teresa Bingham (NE’26), prompting her to pay the campus a visit. “I had already heard good things about the College from Teresa, but I was blown away by the loving, tight-knit Catholic culture at TAC.” She was especially impressed by how the Catholic faith was integrated into every aspect of student life. “It was important to me that I go somewhere that was Catholic both academically and socially, and TAC was exactly what I was looking for.” Between preparing Euclid props and attending classes, Madeline can often be found in the kitchen, baking all manner of sweet treats.

While in high school in Geneva, New York, Matthew Bohrer (NE’26) discovered Thomas Aquinas College when New England Admissions Director John Jost visited his school. “I was really struck by the way he talked about the College,” says Matthew. “It sounded like a place where truth came first.” Intrigued by Mr. Jost’s pitch for the High School Summer Program, he attended and was immediately won over. “The Summer Program is such a good time, and it’s a great place to meet people,” he says. “TAC is proof that you can have an amazing education, spiritual life, and social life all at the same time. You don’t have to sacrifice any one to have a great experience here.”

In addition to delighting in the academic life of the College, Matthew has enjoyed the theatrical and musical opportunities available, as well, appearing in multiple Shakespeare plays over his last three years. This will be Matthew’s third time serving as a Summer Program prefect, and he hopes to share all aspects of his TAC experience with this year’s attendees.
