Kayla Wang

Next in our  series profiling the prefects for the 2022 High Summer Program in California is rising junior Kayla Wang.

While many students are drawn to Thomas Aquinas College through friends or family, Kayla’s first encounter with TAC was through mathematics. “I went to a weird high school, where we had Euclid as a geometry class in freshman year,” she laughs. “My teacher was a TAC alum, and he really encouraged me to look into this place.”

That early nudging also affected Kayla’s older brother, and his subsequent enrollment at the College prompted Kayla to look into the Summer Program, which she attended in 2019. “I really enjoyed getting a taste of the books and being in the classes,” she recalls. “I had visited the campus before the program, and I remember sitting in on the classes and wanting to participate. The Summer Program actually meant I could try it out.”

One thing led to another, and by the fall of 2020, Kayla had returned as a freshman, a choice she has never regretted. “Even as a non-Catholic, I can perceive that this is a community of virtuous people,” she remarks. “Pursuing virtue fosters the value of what we study, and it’s important for the intellectual life.”

Kayla is an enthusiastic advocate of the College’s conviction that truth matters, and she will make an excellent addition to the ranks of Summer Program prefects. “I really enjoyed spending time with the prefects on my program, and they were big influences on my deciding to go to TAC,” she reflects. “If I could be that person for someone else, that would be wonderful!”
