Students on the High School Summer Program

Although the students on the California High School Summer Program carefully prepared their Euclidean propositions last night, many devoted extra time this morning for a final review before class.

The preparation paid off. When the time to present the demonstrations finally arrived, the students exceled. They constructed a triangle with circles, placed a straight line equal to a given straight line with an end at a given point, and cut off from the greater of two unequal straight lines a straight line equal to the less.

The time to present the demonstrations finally arrived, and the students excelled at it in class. They learned how to construct a triangle with circles, place a straight line equal to a given straight line with an end at a given point, and how to cut off from the greater of two unequal straight lines a straight line equal to the less. Even though it is only the first day of demonstrations, the students are beginning to enjoy the experience. “It is so beautiful when you realize you don’t have to memorize it; you just have to understand,” shared James G. The students found class very engaging, and are feeling much more confident about tomorrow's math tutorial. Thrilled to have accomplished their first day of demonstrations , the students sat on the Chapel steps to talk about their morning class experience, and devoutly attended Mass. After a meal of turkey and bacon sandwiches, pesto pasta salad, and Frito or Lay’s chips, the students looked forward to a more relaxed class of Sacred Scripture. Sections discussed Genesis 12-25:12, examining the story of Abraham and his role in salvation history. They talked about whether the Word of God indicates that Abraham grew in his faith or not, and attempted to gather what a covenant is from the examples present throughout the reading. They also wondered if Abraham was good, and if this caused God to choose him to be the father of faith to the nations, or if God’s choosing of Abraham made him good. The reading of God’s Word in class is of high importance to the College. Students who attend TAC read the entire Bible during the course of the first year, and obtain a greater understanding of it through reading St. Augustine and St. Thomas in the following years. For now, students will attend another dance practice, and have an afternoon of free time with their fellow truth-seekers. Check ou

There, the sections discussed Genesis 12-25:12, examining the story of Abraham and his role in salvation history. They talked about whether the Word of God indicates that Abraham grew in his faith, and attempted to gather what a “covenant” is, based on the examples presented throughout the reading. They also wondered if Abraham was good, and if this caused God to choose him to be the father of faith to the nations, or if it was God’s choosing of Abraham that made him good.
