This morning students on the New England campus congregated in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel for the early Mass and to receive their Ash Wednesday ashes. Marked by a cross on their foreheads, Catholics wear the ashes to remember their mortality and to mourn for their sins as the Church enters the penitential season of Lent.

A few times each semester, students at Thomas Aquinas College gather at the home of one of their tutors to enjoy an evening meal and each other’s company. Tutor Dr. Margaret Hughes recently hosted one such event for Section 1-A of the New England Freshman Class.

“What we’re doing at Section Dinners is taking the discourse and the curiosity we’re developing in class and moving it beyond the formalities,” Dr. Hughes explains. “We see what it means to live an intellectual life.”

As the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games drew to a close, students on the New England campus — joined by prospective students who were visiting for an Open House weekend — gathered for an Olympic-themed dance. Olivia Music Hall, usually a building reserved for students to practice Mozart or Bach, was transformed into the 2022 Thomas Aquinas Olympic Games. Flags from across the world hung from the ceiling as music from different countries played in the background.

“We’ll roll the old chariot along and we’ll all hang on behind,” chanted the men of Wilson residence hall last Wednesday evening on the New England campus as they marched to court the women of Gould Hall.

The “dorm wooing,” as coined by senior Joseph Caldwell and junior Ben Domnarski, expresses the men’s appreciation for the women on the campus. “By serenading the women and giving them gifts, we wanted to thank them for being here with us,” said Ben Domnarski.
