Students at the Summer Program

After discussing the pre-Socratics in their Tuesday afternoon class, students on the New England High School Summer Program headed down to the athletic fields for recreation.

The highlight of the afternoon was a four-team soccer tournament, refereed by prefect Justin Hoeing (NE’28). The format was intense: 5-minute games on shorter fields. Every game was decided by a difference of only one goal, and a few were ties. The highlight of the day was a corner shot by student Michael B., right over the goalie and punched into the net by Thomas B., with a fantastic header.

Watching the soccer extravaganza from the sidelines, some girls enjoyed the cooler shade and made friendship bracelets from brightly colored threads and beads. Across the lawn in the gym, Beach Boys blasting, students and prefects enjoyed the cool water of the pool. Prefect Stephen Brown (NE’25) and student Ozan G. had a diving faceoff amidst the cheers and applause from the happy, dripping audience.

Students next made their way up to Gould hall for cream sherry chicken and rice. Sleepy and sun-kissed, they prepared for study hall, grateful for the restful quiet time to read and prepare for today’s class on Genesis.

Once their readings were completed, the programmers headed over to the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel for Rosary. As they walked, the sun set over Billings hall, and there was a light, refreshing sprinkle to break the heat of the day.

Then down to Frassati to enjoy iced mochas and chat about the day!

With an early curfew, students retired to their residence halls, ready for some time to relax in pajamas. The girls enjoyed a civilized spa night with face masks, nail painting, dancing, and arts and crafts. The boys welcomed the evening with push-ups and a barbarian sock-fight.
